# Facilities and channels

> How Enhanced Radar organizes ATC coverage into facilities, channel categories, and channels, and which channels return data.

Coverage is organized in three levels:

* **Facility:** an airport, a TRACON, or an en-route center. Identified by `facility_id`.
* **Channel category:** a group of channels within a facility, such as `Ground`, `Approach`, or `Low`.
* **Channel:** one radio frequency. Identified by `atc_channel_id`.

A channel can belong to more than one facility, for example a center sector that also serves an airport. It can also belong to more than one category of a facility, for example a channel used for both `Approach` and `Departure`. That is why transcripts and events carry a list of `facility_ids`.

Use [`GET /api/v0/facilities`](https://enhancedradar.com/docs/api/docs/api/api-reference/facilities/list) to list the facilities we cover with their categories and channels, and [`GET /api/v0/facilities/search`](https://enhancedradar.com/docs/api/docs/api/api-reference/facilities/search) to find any facility by code or name.

## Available channels

Data is returned only for channels marked `is_available` in `GET /api/v0/facilities`. Channels with `is_available` set to `false` are listed so you can see our coverage, but no data is returned for them.

> [!NOTE]
>
> ATIS channels are listed with `is_available` set to `false`. ATIS broadcasts are not available through the API.

To ask for a channel to be turned on, email [support@enhancedradar.com](mailto:support@enhancedradar.com) with its `atc_channel_id`.

## Airlines

[`GET /api/v0/airlines`](https://enhancedradar.com/docs/api/docs/api/api-reference/airlines/list) lists the airlines you can filter by with `airline_id`. A flight belongs to an airline when its callsign starts with the airline's three-letter ICAO designator.
